English Ambassadors from our school had an exciting day visiting the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Central for the first time on February 5th, 2016. Exposure to the visually stimulating exhibits, various delicate maritime models, and rich historical records of Hong Kong harbours’ and shipping development widened students’ horizons tremendously. In addition, the English guided tour offered students a valuable opportunity to interact in English outside school. Many students later expressed that their interest in the maritime industry has been greatly aroused!
Please read some students’ feedback from the visit:

On 5th February, I joined the English Ambassadors’ visit to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
In the visit, we learnt about the shipping industry in Hong Kong. For example, we learnt about many different kinds of ships and boats like the Stanley Dragon Boat Team’s training boat and the windsurfing board which Lee Lai-Shan, who won the gold medal in the Olympic Games for Hong Kong, used before. There was also a boat that had a bow with the Chinese mythical figure called ‘Guanyin’.
Apart from ships and boats, the museum also has some old exhibits that came from China a long time ago. These include a logbook and a gun from an old war ship, which was used for fighting pirates.
In the museum, the tour guide also mentioned about the shipping history in Hong Kong, for example, the famous dock history of Hong Kong. Also she talked about Hong Kong’s Kwai Tsing Container Terminals. When I listened to the terminal’s history I was surprised because when the terminal began to operate in the 1970s, it was so small, but today the terminal is the 5th biggest container terminal in the world!
I was happy to learn many things in the museum. If I can go to the museum again, I will!

On the 5th of February, English Ambassadors from my school and I went to Central to visit the Hong Kong Maritime Museum!
The Hong Kong Maritime Museum is a nice place for people to know more about boats and ships, and also about the history of Hong Kong’s shipping industry. The museum has a great quantity of exhibits, for example, one of the earliest diving suit, as well as models of dragon boats and cargo ships.
There were two parts of the museum which I liked the most. The first part was that I was able to have the beautiful view of Victoria Harbour and the buildings along the harbour by using the telescope. It was impressive, because on that day it was sunny. The sunshine irradiated the sea, so the sea looked shiny.
The second part I liked the most was the various models of ships. The models were very exquisite and most of them were made of wood or plastic. Every part of the ship models was realistic as they looked just like the real ships. I think a good ship model is not only about its outlook but also about the decorations inside. The decorations impressed me a lot. It was because there were lights, chairs, and tables inside these models. I cannot imagine how much time people spent making these models.
Visiting the Hong Kong Maritime Museum has broaden my horizons and also increased my knowledge about boats and ships. I would recommend a visit there!

During the Chinese New Year holiday, Mrs. Barry and English Ambassadors went to the Maritime museum. This museum is located in Central and is used to showcase the development of Victoria Harbour and the history of the shipping industry in Hong Kong. We had a very good tour guide who explained in English the exhibits one by one and answered our questions.
There were 3 zones - Zone A, Zone B and Zone C - in the museum. We went to Zone B, which is the middle part of the museum. There were a lot of models of modern ships inside. It was easy to use the computers there to design our own ships.
However, I thought the most impressive sight was the view of Victoria Harbour in the sunshine. It was such a brilliant view that I have never seen before. After a while, we went to Zone C. It displayed the “old view” of Hong Kong! There was an old boat in the Chinese traditional style!
In the end, we explored Zone A by ourselves. It showed the facilities inside a ship. If I have one more opportunity, I will go there again.
